2020-12-30 at 4:16 AM UTCN64 emulators are really good and work great even on shitty old hardware, just do that. I've watched a few world record attempts at yoshi's story by a guy who's big in the nor cal smash scene, it's surprisingly technical, or at least speed running it is.

I might make it a mission to get a ton of 64 games and play them on a emulator with a tood controller. So much Love. Simpler days. Goldenfuckingeye -

i have never seen a yoshi story speedrun before. Yeah that game is fucking crazy I can just imagine, i gotta check it out.
I don't have a very good USB controller but I have a switch so I have just been buying all the old remakes on that instead of emulating because it feels better to play on TV
my switch is just a wii that costs more money lol
I should really play spongebob on dolphin the remake is SO FUCKING BAD and final fantasy removed local co-op lmao

Game cube controller is my favorite, and works great to play n64 games. An adaptor is like $20 and worth it IMO, although since N64 games were working with a shit controller anyway I've always been fine using a keyboard honestly. Asymetric sticks on the GCC weird people out and I can see why, it's probably not ideal for shooters, but a mouse is objectively better so w/e. Button layout is way better than the generic 4-symbol style (look at the history of playstation button schemes and the fact that people still can't quite figure out if "X" or "O" is the primary button, and that there's zero consistency in what north and west buttons are supposed to do or mean) and nintendo was doing analogue triggers before it was cool. -
