Hey, I recall something about how people viewed it as the same as a ghost ship in the waters. if the people died or missing and the boat in whole or pieces was public domain.
but the feds argument made sense, since it just happened. it was a potential crime scene or at best an accident investigation and removing parts was like grabbing a fender or bumper that broke off just after an car or truck accident happened. it was private property. I guess Land Laws differ. but then again it broke up in space. Who owns space. who owns the shuttle. NASA says its theirs but its paid for by US Tax payer dollars.
It seems like the decent thing to do is leave it the fuck alone. I mean it's kind of morbid those people died and for all you know, apart of them is burned into the metal fragments or plastic or whatever component is made from.

No...I was tempted to go looking though, pieces of it were all over Nacogdoches and my wife of the time used to drive out there a lot for her job.
They pretty much said straight away thought "you'll get 10yrs if you do"...so I didn't. -
