    The painter Kim Noble is a niblet-sized woman with long, auburn hair and startlingly blue eyes. She lives in a small terrace house in south London with her 14-year-old daughter Aimee, two dogs and more than 100 separate personalities.

    Kim, 50, has dissociative identity disorder (DID). She is, in effect, scores of different people – the exact number is uncertain – wrapped up in one body. These personalities are all quite distinct, with their own names and ages and quirks of temperament. Some are children. Some are male.

    There needs to be more research on plural polysubstance abuse. Multiple people with different addictions being should not all be treated the same.

    I wonder how many teeth bite her tongue during an average meal, as well as other logistical problems of minor consequence that Sybil never mentions.

    Perhaps she’s achieved with the parts some kind of equitable situation which neutralizes the necessity for them each to thoughtlessly grab onto experience.

    I wonder, if they all talk with one full mouth between them, is this many times more impolite than for a singlet or rather is it a fraction of such? I imagine that, in order to test this and decide what it means, she’d have to be eating something truly awful.
