Was pretty advance CGI for nearly 20 years ago. I remember the first water/particle plugin demo I used on Max r6 back around 2000. watermarked but fun to play with. I wanted to be game modeler for a while. but human and organic animals is kind of hard to do.
today it's a breeze. everything is preassembled to bone and rig. takes the fun out of modeling but great for deadlines.
Also Blender is free for linux and the water plugin is free as well but it's a huge learning curve from max. more like Maya -
