2020-10-31 at 5:55 PM UTCHi guys!
Glad it is the weekend and time to relax and have fun.
Cat woke Chell up really early and Chell got cranky and went and got doughnuts.
When she had come back she was all upset because her car window was stuck down.
I watched 3-4 Youtube videos on how to take apart the car door and what other people did to fix the same problem.
I knew it wasn't a fuse because only 1 window was affected and if it was a fuse it would be at least 2 or more windows affected.
After learning a bunch from watching videos we ran to a garage sale where I bought stuff and then to Harbor Freight where I spent $20 on tools to fix Chell's window.
I was hoping it wasn't the motor but Chell's description of the problem led me to think it was.
I decided to check the switch as it seemed easier to at least rule out and also because it was the first component I cam across.
I managed to get the inside of her door off and I removed the switches.
Then I fiddled with it a while until I got the switch box separated in 2 and I could see the circuit board.
It looked pretty dirty and all I had was 250 grit sand paper for metal.
I went ahead and did a fairly fast but effective job cleaning up the solder joints which had corrosion on them and I got it looking decent.
Put the whole thing back together and went to test my work.
Thank goodness it was just the switch because the window motor replacement looked a bit more difficult.
Anyways guys, always check for corrosion and loose connections because a lot of the time it can be a really easy fix but you won't know if you don't try.
I am pretty sure anyone who can relate to my post knows just how much time and money I just saved myself.
You can do anything you put your mind to. Just watch a youtube video first. -
2020-10-31 at 6:26 PM UTCQuestion. Why did she leave the window open in the first place? it allows cold and moisture to gum up those components and corrode? remember, water is a virus to electronic boards (I learned this while working at an electronic store) you can dry it out and clean it up but the parts will oxidize and the component board gets incurable form of electronic AIDS. it will die with in 6 months on average.
good job Fona. go take classes and get a job fixing electronics in peoples cars. get certified.
CHEERS EVERYONE HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Its a rare Halloween. Blue Moon and Fall Back is tonight as well.

2020-10-31 at 6:32 PM UTCheck yea bud you saved yourself probably around 500. No shop would take the time to do what you did, theyd just order you a new oem switch +20% then charge you some outrageous book time to replace it

2020-10-31 at 7:50 PM UTCI took it apart 3 more times to fix it.
Was having issues getting some of the pieces to remain seated while i simultaneously fit the 2 halves of the switch assembly back together.
I do believe I have gotten it correctly fit back together now and her window is back up.
Still have to put her door back together but we chose to do some running around errands before the sun sets.
Dont forget to set your clocks tonight.
Anyone know if it goes back or forward an hour? -
2020-10-31 at 7:58 PM UTChopefully she lets you skeet on her face as payment for all the work you put into it

2020-10-31 at 9:56 PM UTCGot it all put back together and working (for now).
Probably will have to revisit this again but it is okay.
Just for today. -

Seriously though you're clever to diagnose the problem like that. -
