I've not seen anything about this anywhere, and I'll find some more info later, but the short version is this:
Covid's killed business for a lot of people. A shopkeeper was approached by some low-level mafia thug asking 'why he hadn't paid his protection money' 'I haven't sold anything, can't even afford to eat'
The thug was high, took at as some sort of insult and tried to stab him. Shopkeeper takes the knife from him, thug pulls another knife, shopkeeper kills him. Cops arrest the shopkeeper for his own protection.
While the shopkeeper's in remand the mafia snatches his kid, cuts off his hands, stabs his eyes, shoots him in the knees and leaves him on the street. Passerby takes a video and it's all over social media:
Shopkeepers in the area go bananas, arm up and start executing anyone with tattoos or a certain haircut that's associated with the mafia. Military are called in. By the end of it, over 20k are arrested and over 10k are dead.
