WASHINGTON — The commanding general of the Marine Corps Forces in Europe and Africa was relieved of command on Monday while he is under investigation for allegedly using a racial slur.
The force's commandant, Gen. David H. Berger, relieved Maj. Gen. Stephen M. Neary as commander in Europe and Africa “due to a loss of trust and confidence in his ability to serve in command," according to a statement from the Marine Corps.
The loss of trust and confidence was because of Neary’s alleged use of a racial slur that denigrates Black people several weeks ago, according to two U.S. military officials.
A group of Marines was listening to loud rap music during outdoor training over the summer, said the officials, when Neary made a comment about the music and used the N-word in front of the group. One U.S. military official said he did not direct the word at anyone, but rather used it when talking about the music and questioning the use of the term in the music.

They're at least 2 generations ahead of the US in terms of rocketry, missile tech and propulsion which is THE most important field for a superpower/regional power at the moment. Hypersonic ASBMs have essentially nullified the concept of a surface fleet and there are no current (or even expected in the near future) defences against the AVANGUARD HSGVs or that nuclear-powered loitering cruise missile I forget the name of.
they're also the only ones who've fielded a next-gen MBT, but any war with the US would not be a ground war anyway -

If you're a superpower, you don't need to pour all your money into weaponry supporting your fleet in the waters near your coast. That's the strategy of regional powers like China, whose range is so limited that even Canada sails warships right by them.
There will never be a China/USA war anyway, thankfully. -

Does it matter what it calls itself? Under Putin they have no interest in expansionism or dominance (working towards multipolarity at the moment) - he has no interest in reviving the Soviet Union regardless of what hysterical 'think tanks' have to say. The west trying to stir up unrest against him is a very dangerous game because if he leaves without giving his approval to a successor, either the hardline communists or militant nationalists will replace him, not the pro-western puppets they want, and either of those are likely to tear up the constitution that was imposed on them.
As it currently stands, the Russian military is trained and expected to fight within 2000km (from memory) of Russian territory; Putin had to work hard to convince the people and the brass that sending even a small detachment to help in Syria was in their best interest. The point is they're fully able to defend Russian territories but their military is not capable of major operations outside of that 2000km zone.
As for China, they're fully able to sink warships in their territorial (or disputed) waters, they just know that escalation is not in their best interests. They know that they're far more powerful economically than militarily.

I'm not really anti-Russia. I think these days they are a fairly rational actor. I definitely haven't agreed with every action they've taken but given the constraints imposed on them by the US I find it hard to criticize too much. The idea that NATO - in 2020 - should still exist and still apply military pressure to the Russia when it's sphere of influence has shifted eastward from east germany to belarus is completely ridiculous and counter productive.
It's a completely different situation from China, who act irresponsibly and seriously threaten stability due to their inner party struggles manifesting outwards, but people always want to conflate the two

They're theoretically capable, and I'm sure they could pick off a loan Canadian destroyer broadcasting its position. But the PLA, PLN and PLAF are completely untested, as is their equipment. It's the "missile gap" all over again, the US military industrial complex is rubbing their hands with glee now that they can big up china and grow their budgets. -
