   I've been thinking of mesh networks relying on different media like HAM radio, bluetooth, laser, unused phonelines etc. but more as a decentralised communications link that can't easily be shut down, not gay nostalgia
   
   
   depending on the media we'd be lucky to break 10kbps though; most of the long-distance radio bands are very narrow
