2020-10-13 at 2:12 AM UTCI gotta say I'm in a pretty good place financially right now, but I certainly could be a little better. My taxes are going to be interesting to say the least. That's really the biggest thing I worry about. One one hand I WANT it to look like I made a bit of money for future lending purposes, but at the same time I can write a lot off and declare losses in certain areas and get refunds. I think it's better in my case to file for a decent amount but I really need an accountant to tell me. Canada's tax code is pretty straightforward but I still need someone to help me with some loopholes.

Australia is a lot less attractive to me now that I realized I'd actually be taxed more - your income tax is more progressive and last time I checked I really wasn't earning much and would have been taxed less. -

2020-10-13 at 2:44 AM UTCI live in Canada and still pay $110 a month for blue cross because I save about $50 on prescriptions and usually 100-200 a month on physio, massages, dentistry or psychology, of which I will usually have 1 or 2 appointments a month. It's good to keep your blue cross because if I were to lose it it would be hard to get back.
This thread reminded me that I got a letter in the mail a few months ago saying I owed $200 from a time I saw a specialist but was in a weird "limbo" period where I just finished a ward of the federal government due to a legal situation but was in the community. Just weird how our health cards work I guess -

ours is much 'flatter'. Lowest rate is 10.5% from 0-$13k AU, then the highest rate of 33% kicks in at about $65k AU.
Plus, we don't have the medicaid or medicare or whatever the fuck it is levy. -
