More than that there's an informal culture of supporting all those in your ethnic group. It's pretty stupid and unhelpful because it means ethnic groups contain entire swaths of the economy but give favoritism to each other and tax tf out of each other. Hausa run the ports, Igbo run education, Falani run agriculture and fishing, I forget some of the others but it's counter productive to making a country work
