I just experienced it with my Mom. We knew she was dying, so we all made plans to see her since the facility she was in let us see and touch her since she was actively dying. I saw her on Friday, and the last person that drove up to see her was my son. She knew he was the last person that was coming to say goodbye. He saw her on Saturday. She became unconscious Saturday night. Most of my family (13 people) were there praying and holding her hand when she passed. That was the least lonely death, she died how she wanted, with dignity and her family around.
I donāt know if your family is as tight as mine, but my Mother wouldnāt have wanted it any other way. It was not personal to her, it was personal to her and my family.
