VR is the next major computing platform according to every major player in the tech and web industries. They want billions of people engaged in VR, not just AR. How will they manage this? Most normies don't even like CG movies and can't play video games without getting ill. What makes Tim Cook and Zuckerberg think your mom is going to want to spend hours in the metaverse like she does on social media. One thing that comes to mind is photogrammetry which is the most likely step towards mass adoption for VR, personally though that would take away all the fun of stepping inside an imaginary world.
It'll be interesting to see what VR will be like by 2035.
Leave it to the megatech to turn VR into a sterile and boring landscape tailored for the masses.
2012 to maybe 2026 will be the golden age of VR similar to how the web was up to 2007. You'll have lots of animated and dream like graphics and design, then by the 30s using photogrammetry everything will be "realistic" and dull. It'll be as boring as watching a movie and to the normies that should be enough, they'll mock people for wanting VR to resemble the larger than life surrealist depiction of the 90s and 00s.
This tech is the future of VR (and gaming), I just hope it doesn't lead developers to stick to more realistic settings and scenarios instead of exploring imaginary and hyper stylized worlds.
But yeah that's how I imagine they'll draw in the masses. Your mom won't be in some cartoonist dream world, shell just teleport to a reality based setting like an island or outer space while she chats with people who's avatars will be scans of their actual bodies.
