Thanks m8. It's pretty much gorgeous wherever you turn. I'm trying to catch a salmon today (I really have no fucking clue what I'm doing) at this river which is like blue aquamarine colored. It's not working out so well but hey at least I can say I got my STICK WET in Alaska. :)

I think its a lot easier to catch them during spawning season whenever the fuck that is. Otherwise only a handful stick to very specific locations, n theyre powerful n fast in deeper water. If its shallow enough you can build a little circular dam out of rocks and then splash around at the other end to scare them into it and then close the open end and spear the fish with a stick
You should move to alaska and forge your destiny -

are they still giving free land away up there for anyone who stays 5 years? plus like 100 a month (or 1200 each year) to not leave.
off the grid would be awesome. but I would want to live on What I guess is the Panhandle and not halfway to backyard Russia. Juno area? that's probably a lot more populated than Anchorage is. I mean Anchorage might have 300k by now and the most populated region as a city. but being closer to BC probably has more of a stable feel to it. even if it is miles away from nothing. Anchorage is not going to have free land near by. -

Apparently Homesteading was super rare, and even that, they ended in 1986. But even with the cheapest land, clearing it and building foundation, clean water supply, solar, etc- would be stupid expensive. A lot more than my $5k savings. lol. I have no illusions about planing felled logs by hand and laying a clay floor. I think id probably chop one tree and get halfway through removing the stump before i started screaming, shooting shotgun slugs at it, and then go do some drugs in a tent. -

I watch these all the time. The guy in sibera takes his time all summer building a "bear proof cabin" just a small shed size cabin with pullies, wenches, basic raw cutting tools. then there is a guy who uses a chainsaw and leveler to cut his own boards. they come out really clean and good quality. the most time is spent leveling it perfect and then you have to place shims in between the cut every 18 inches and tontinue on. you could probably get Twenty 2x16, 20, etc from each tree. smaller tree should get a 100 2x4 out in a single day. if not less.
cut your lumber, come back the next year. that's why i wondered if you could leave if you homestead. but if you buy a cheap acre or two you don't have to worry. just cut it, wrap it and cover it with tarp and show up next year. -
