Want to buy car to tinker with

I have a garage and I've been thinking of parking my daily driver outside while I put a "project" car in there. What types of cars would you consider for a first timer? I was thinking of getting an old import, like a Honda or Toyota that I can easily get new parts for and upgrade in EVERY way. I want to learn skills and get to know a car inside and out.

if ur a poor bastard get a 79 F250 and redew it,, itl be worth 30 grand if you do it right,,

if you can find a 55 chevy or ford truck they sell for upwards of 80 grand redone right.

first gen bronco's are selling for up to 150,000 and you can still get them for under ten grand ready for ur $$$ to make it rite.

VW bus from the early 70's are selling for 30 to 40 grand redone right.

I love VW Beetles but I want something s bit more "beginner". I will worry about flipping 80K bugs later down the road when I know what I'm doing a little better lol. I am leaning towards something in the lates 90s or early 2000s by GM, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, etc. Maybe a Celica or something.

70's toyota's, they don't have computers, censors or the 1500 wires that cum with that crap,, plus they have awesome resale value and if we get hit with a electronic pulse thingy itl still start up and head for the hills

I'd look for retail stats from 10 years ago, see what was highest sold, hoping for easier time to get parts of said model in area.

But really I look for what I judge to be the best deal according to me at my budget I would have at the time. But if intending to learn I'd prob buy a wrecked but salvageable vehicle I liked. Not sure if there are auctions dedicated to that but would see about rebuild. Not sure how that's regulated tho, if the work has to be done and signed off on or just inspected.
