Mind you I haven’t thoroughly researched his heritage because it is not mine, since I was adopted. But I am curious how they are viewed. My Dad was a fiscally smart, hard working man. -
2020-08-15 at 1:20 PM UTCWe have lots of Lithuanians in Ireland, and I've worked and gone to college with lots.
They're fine. No problems, they fit in just fine. It's a shame their country was quite poor, but I think it's getting a lot of EU money now.
There are also ethnic Russian Lithuanians, they tend to be much more bydlo than the actual Balts. -

2020-08-15 at 1:27 PM UTCWhat is “bydlo”?
I looked into the family name over there and his family has as castle under their name. I guess it’s a tourist attraction.
My father and his brother dropped the last two letters off our surname after WW2 so they wouldn’t sound so ethnic when searching for jobs. -

They like them but think they own some of their lands or it should be in Poland like Vilno for historical reasons as the territories shifted after the war. The Lithuanians have a diff perspective on things like history tho and Jagielo who is a hero in Poland is somewhat of a tyrant there who betrayed the Lithuanians to form a commonwealth in Poland and actually betrayed his own brother or uncle and imprisoned them at one point. -
2020-08-15 at 1:49 PM UTCVilno, or Vilnius?

2020-08-15 at 2:04 PM UTCin polish its Wilno in Lithuanian Vlnus or Vilnius forgot which. i did time with a lithuanian at the immigration ice center we ended up both being deported and he lives in ireland now. we were great friends in there but he is of the russina variwnt i believe as he spoke it perfectly. he also was a hacker a big time hacker in some hacking credit card ring out of santa monica and fought his deportairon for yrs until like six months ago.
