I'm really surprised microsoft has even survived vs. linux. The open style of everything linux is a dream come true for developers of anything.

There are two reasons MS enjoys the market penetration it does. First they have been channel partenrs with every PC manufacture since the first IBM PC. So the consumer public has been getting an MS OS every XMAS since 1983. Which means everyone currently in the workforce is familiar with the MS OS. Which brings ties in with the second reason which is this. The ability to control and manage an enterprise environement that the average person can use the workstations in without learning a new OS. Linux doesn't come with a new PC and it isn't as easy to manage Linux workstations for end users in an enterprise environement.

I'm not saying Linux isn't a better OS, but it has not been developed for large scale server client/end user workstation use and environments nor has it been marketed to the average consumer nearly as well as Windoze has.

I guess that's it. Marketting. Microsoft is a big marketting scheme. The world would've saved a lot of money by switching entirely to Linux in the early 90's.

Linux is such a waste of time that even just calling it Linux isn't good enough, you gotta call it debian mint arch GNu slash dot xx back slash sudo colon Linux and then sit there for an hour while it compiles.

BSD isn't a single OS. It's a family of operating systems. Prominent examples include OpenBSD and FreeBSD.

Linux is a PITA to set up, true. But it fits like a glove. Shit just works, and fast.

Windows is like being a guest in someone elses house. For years.

Also last time I messed around with sound card drivers manually was 20 years ago. On a windows machine

I just installed Dosbian on a spare Pi 3B+ I had laying around and 3D printed a mini 486DX era case to house it in.
