   Yeah I enjoy my alcoholic beverages but have no issues just dropping them cold turkey. Hell I did so for half of last year.

    the Z-drugs are referred to as atypical benzos. I'm not sure about the pharmacology but regular benzos like xanax or valium act a lot like alcohol; you get the regular GABA effects of calming, loss of fine motor control, eventual blackout/forgetfulness etc, just less of the negative effects (nausea, loss of motor control etc) and the blackout is unexpected because the effects don't 'ramp up' as gradually as alcolol.
    
    Z-drugs were meant to be less addictive than regular benzos; I believe they only affect SOME of your GABA receptors, so the part that calms you and gives the 'drunk' effect is suppressed but the part that sedates you hits like a truck

    i see, more sedating and less calming. seems less recreational potential to me and benzos dont have much of that as it is.

    coffee did worse things to me than hard drugs. caffeine pills gave me a panic attack once.
