   I'm fairly confident containment will work, there will be provocations, but both sides will be keen to de-escalate.
   
   A war on that scale would rock your Hikikomori world. Paying NEETs to sit at home and jerk off to shota porn isn't top of the priority list in a total war between a regional and super power.

   Not officially, but according to government insiders on both sides there are parts of agreements that aren't made public that relate to this. Regardless of official documentation, China and Russia operate together to challenge US power with Russia offering military support to China's economic power. Iran is intertwined as well to a lesser degree, so any conflict would rapidly spread to the middle east too.

   There's a big difference between a short-lived border dispute and open war - why would Russia get involved in a single skirmish and some trash talk? The hardware that Russia supplies India with does not give them an edge over China, not even the first-gen joint manufactured hypersonic missiles (BRAHMA or something). Russia sells Turkey of all people current-gen SAM and ASAT weapons because they know that with or without them Turkey would not pose a serious (direct) threat to Russian interests.
   
   As for 'containment', it's not going to work. Both sides are attempting to decouple, and China has more to gain in the long-term in the Eurasian markets, ie. the progress of the BRI
