2020-04-07 at 5:17 PM UTCTo refurbish this.
Been after a vertical VZ3000 for quite a few years (at a reasonable price) without success as I had one back in the early 80s and it was pleasing to both eye and ear. Picked up this VZ3500 which is similar (and rarer), a later model than the 3000. It is functional but needs work.
Things to do
New belts, turntable and tape deck + associated belts (there are about 4 I think) PARTS ORDERED
New pinch roller - tape deck PART ORDERED
recap (change the capacitors) PARTS TO BE ORDERED WHEN I FIGURE OUT WHICH ONES I'M CHANGING
2x new Stylus (already bought and you can see em sitting on the top of it)
install RGB LEDs to light the turntable area when operational. - Already have LEDs.

Near 40 years old...as you may or may not be aware electrolytic caps dry up or bulge...half my life seems to be changing caps out of old amigas etc.
Like I said though when I have it open I'll inspect them all and see what I think...any signs of leakage or bulging I'll change them...otherwise I'll probably leave as be for now...though if there are any performance issues when running it I might have to revisit them. -

They don't make new ones...example, to try and buy a new tape player with dolby NR or metal tape support...you can't as dolby stopped issuing licenses.
There is literally one factory in the entire world making tape mechanisms...and they are crap ones...every manufacture who makes "new" tape decks uses that same mechanism...so $30 or $300..you're getting the same shit. -

Your information is incorrect young fella-me-lad. It's a disposable world now, things are not made to last and are made of inferior components...cars for example are made out of aluminum as thin as a coke can or even gayer, plastic...back in the 1700s they made them by smelting the precious metals out of meteorites. -

Near 40yr old deliciousness working, looking and sounding as good as the day it was born. You can only hope to look this good when you are 40.
