But even discounting streaming services if you want, shit is better than it has ever been.
I dunno about this, I feel like media quality in general has dropped because rather than putting emphasis on telling an interesting and compelling story, everything (at least coming out of US studios) seems to start with a political message and build around that instead.
It doesn't help that I find most of those messages dumb or abhorrent, but that's not really important - what is important is that those messages are jammed in at the EXPENSE of other, more traditionally-important components. -

We're definitely at the tail end of the golden age, no denying that. It might even have technically ended a year or two ago. But it definitely was *not* in 2002. We live in the era of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones (minus the last season or two), Mad Men, The Expanse, True Detective (the first season), etc etc. The early 2000s had The Sopranos and The Wire, but the 2010s have had numerous television shows of similar quality.
