Ok, so earlier when you said race is a social construct, did you mean it exists as an abstract category of ideas but not as something that exists "out there" as a physical thing, or did you mean it exists as both an abstract category of ideas as well as a physical thing, or what? -

There are real patterns of genetic and cultural variations in human beings. Race is a category that uses one, skin colour, to organize human beings. It's a real phenomenon, a real pattern or set of patterns in the world, that we generalize into a word that sums up some essential features of phenomenon. It is a socially constructed category because it is a word we have constructed and understand as an abstraction in a social context.
The problem can be when one uses these associations to create tribalistic generalizations about other patterns, like social criminality or intelligence. -
