It's exactly like chess: that's just you niggling about the name "Chess" and which set of rules to apply it to. The current rule set is just a rule set, we just call it chess. It's just a matter of declaration.
Similarly you can declare that a bishop can only move diagonally and it becomes a fact that it means they can only play on one colour. It's a fact of the rule set, doesn't mean the rule set isn't invented.
Just like the rules of math are what they are and we call it math: you declare you're using Euclidean geometry and pi will be 3.14.However, you can't change the rule as applied to PI…
Pi being 3.14etc isn't the rule.
The rule is that we define Pi to be the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle. A circle is an object where every point on the perimeter is equidistant from its center. If you assume a flat (Euclidean) space with no curvature, it is 3.14 because it is a consequence of the rules (specifically Euclid's postulates).
But we don't live in flat space, it's a fictional model invented by humans because it is useful. In curved space it is literally a matter of how it is curved that determines pi."OK as of today the circumference of a circle will measure APPROXIMATELY 2 times that of the radius instead of the previously used 3.14".
You can make the statement but you can't change the rule…as 2 radius's wouldn't fit…the 3.14 rule would still apply.
The rule you're arbitrarily changing/clinging to is what geometry to pick.
It's just a declaration that we pick certain rules, then we can see the consequences. -
