"Mad dogs and Englishmen"
-
2020-07-06 at 12:06 PM UTCIt's 2pm in Athens. There's an old saying that "only mad dogs and englishmen go out in the midday sun". I got advised to stay inside during the hours around noon earlier. I was going around sweating like crazy. I sweat a lot, even back home, but I was pretty sure people were looking at me like I had The Flu, and that just made me sweat more.
Mediterranean people are super lazy, walk slow, spend all morning and night hanging out with friends, and don't really feel the need to achieve anything. There's no real tech sector to speak of here.
Athens is covered in gaffiti too. Like really bad problems. It reminds me a good bit of Nairobi or Mombasa, except in those cities there is less graffiti - people can't afford spraypaint. And unlike those cities Athens feels very safe. -

There is no mandatory quarantine period here. However I did have to fill out a form with an address I could be contacted at, but got away with just booking a hotel for a few days.
I'm not complaining about a free test. It was just a throat swab btw, is that not unusual?
I might try to get a test on my return to Ireland, and quarantine, but I was quarantining already, so there will be no difference. -

No, not really, they do nasal, oral, and sometimes both, when they’re super thorough. Testing is different in the different countries also. It seems many places have better testing that we do. -

Well, the thing to remember about the virus is that the media is complete bullshit. In the white suburbs people are adhering to the lockdown, like idiots, but the urban proletariat in the towns and cities people aren't. As a result corona has a fertile home, especially since this virus has such a suspiciously high asymptomatic:symptomatic ratio. And corona will certainly be back next winter. Zero doubt about that. However, it will be in a much weaker form. Viruses tend to evolve to become less problematic to the host over time, as the result of obvious evolutionary pressures. -
