Originally posted by -SpectraL You could also use a fancy "front end" client called HyperTerminal to access the Totse BBS. Most people just TelNet'ed straight in from a command prompt and MS-DOS. But with the HyperTerminal, you had a few more options and customizations and Easter eggs. One of the best things about the Totse BBS was it was "non-ratio", which meant you didn't need to give to get. The vast majority of other BBS sites of the day required you to have an upload/download ratio. So, if you uploaded a 60kb text file, you were able to download 180k in other people's content, a 1-3 ratio. Some BBS sites had a 3-1 ratio, so you had to upload three times the amount of content you were then authorized to download. If you didn't upload anything, you didn't get anything. A view was counted as a download. But Totse had a no-ratio format. 0-0. This made the site attractive to new users/downloaders, but it also created a situation where takers could clean you out of valuable and interesting content and not have to contribute anything in return.
Are you genuinely trying to convince us there was no file copying back then? -

2020-06-29 at 10:01 AM UTCI was since late 2004 or 2005 (whenever the wintermute drama happened) but rarely posted, probably for the better though i still do regret it. i would of been a better man if i got a steady diet of tough totse love.
