the US needs NATO to justify its foreign policy; they gain far more from it (both politically and keeping their primary arms industry running) than the other signatories.
why wouldn't Germany buy Russian gas when logistics alone make it half the price of the US product? if buying it makes them someone's 'bitch' why not save some money in the process -

yeah, buying US gas just isn't cost-effective because there's a huge difference in transatlantic shipping vs. pipeline costs. as far as I know the only country buying US gas is Poland because they've bought into the 'the Russians are coming' hype and want a US base.
also EU dependence on Russian gas is overstated, I'll check the stats but from memory only like 20% of their natural gas requirement comes from Russia nowadays, the rest is either from smaller suppliers or extracted domestically -

Civil Asset Forfeiture is one of the worst facets of policing in the US but as far as I know it only happens in a few states -
