reality is fake and gay anyway.
I don't particularly like the idea of 'owning' a living creature; I tend to think of my cats like flatmates

Do you lock your flatmates inside the house their whole lives, put a collar on them, and force them to eat wet chicken liver and mashed cartilage from a metal dish on the floor?
I do too.

On topic: I almost let my dog loose at the park once on LSD because it felt so wrong taking him for a walk like my furry little chained victim. He was the color of those fun dip sticks and I remember trying to keep away from the 'sharp grass' so he wouldn't cut his paws, which had no shoes.
Eventually me and him came to an agreement and we frolicked through this open field. I'm glad it was below street level because I probably looked fucking ridiculous.
Still keep him enslaved to this day but I honestly don't think I'd have it any other way.

Pets have the best life in a rural area. Having a pet in some skyscraper in a big city where you can never let it outside does sound depressing as fuck for the animal.

It's little more than a peculiar kind of symbiosis between two different organisms... the relationship itself is totally natural. Generally speaking, both humans and their pets get something out of it. Humans may ruminate about it, but pets don't care.
