   Lenda, just make a new page for login, remove the login fields from being always displayed when no logged in and force us to click a button to log in. The button will have an HTTPS link to the login page. Ez.

   the main reason to use https is to stop someone sniffing traffic from seeing what you do on the site - ie. school/work administrators or people logging public access points etc. can see your username and anything you post
   
   password security is secondary; if someone gets your password they can post as you until you reset your password; who cares? unless you're the kind of mongelroy who uses the same password for everything, I guess

The manner in which a bruter operates is by generating characters in all combinations, increasing the length of the sequence each pass by one character starting with one character.
