In Chicago you get to be on your own after 6 months and I did not want to be around for that. They were also moving me to the west side (because of my Spanish) which was the final straw. I didn't really do anything besides provide muscle.

wow, I certainly didn't know this of you MMR. I just don't know why you didn't 'stay' in to try and make good changes? This is what our Police Forces need most... our good officers training & weeding out the bad ones.
If they don't, then the whole barrel soon becomes overridden by the bad apples of the bunch and we find ourselves in the sad state of affairs we see our Police forces across America in, atm.

It's not easy to work with shitbags who are trying to stop other shitbags from being shitbags while simultaneously trying to keep the shitbags I work with from being shitbags.
This is why so many good cops quit. It takes a lot to dedicate your career to something like this. And the people who do actually try to change the system or stand up for themselves end up getting fired and ostracized as not being 'part of the team.'
Also I don't really see any sizeable number of people wanting police 'deform'. Everybody just wants reform. Trump just passed an executive order for police reform but it doesn't really have any teeth. Still no mandatory de-escalation training or certifications or any of of the shit that other countries do as bottom standard.
