   was abandoned by the developer/s.
   
   it was never verified, but I'm under the impression (based on the code) that it was just a single developer and he got sick of the constant scrutiny and accusations of backdooring it. the crowdsourced code audit never picked up any issues, just messy versioning from memory.
   
   if you want to use it, it's now beenn forked to Veracrypt which is still under active development.
