It looks like they got one of those white backpackers.
I can't answer your question, but....
In the Amazon, there's a Tribe called The Cauabury Tribe. They are still Cannibals, but they put you in a big tree trunk, and pulp you to death, and drink you, along with Chicha, a cassava root brew, which the women chew and spit in the container and let it ferment before they all drink it. All in the Amazon are fair game, that cross their path. The celebration can last a few days. That part of the Amazon I have no desire to go into. Even though the Macu tribe have the best curare in the world, and are under the protection of the Cauabury. I sure would like some of that curare though.
The Jivaro Tribe still shrink heads too on occasion I'm told. Pronounced "Hivero". They are in The Northern Peru basin.
I'ma bee skippin that one too... Bolivia is the goal this time around. I loved Columbia, and I want to see more of it this next time, but bolivia is where Puma Punku is, and Aramu Muru.
I wonder how they mistake a coati for a muskrat??? We have them in the mountains up here. a long ringed tail, and a body 4 times a muskrat size... movie looks gruesome. reminds me of Dario Argento a little.
its cool just because of the effects. A lot of them even hold up today. I kinda prefer creepy and unsettling and psychological to gore tho,

Effects look pretty real, absolutely. It's always a surprise, what they use to get the desired effect. Especially for blood, and the endless types of runny or coagulant stages. My friend and tour guide in the French Quarter uses corn syrup and something else he never lets on about, but it looks real as hell.
Ever seen any Dario Argento? I figure you probably have.... I have an exceedingly rare book, titled "Candomble'" that you would love. It's mostly about Trepanation and rituals of types of Voodoo.

I haven't seen "Deep Red" yet. I bet those nails are real.
