Religion and religious symbolism is not banned whatsoever in China. They have religious freedom. What they care about is ORGANIZATION which is why ORGANIZED religion is banned and the Catholic Church is not officially allowed to open churches. That doesn't mean Christians don't open their own individual churches, it just isn't connected to the papal. Lots of Churches all over the world do similar.
People are astounded by the decorations because obviously Christmas is part of Western culture and we do it up big. You'd be astounded if you went to China for the Lunar Festival too. It's not going to look like Chinatown.
Also they're *barely* communist anymore. I bet you can't think of a single communist policy China has. -

chinas uighur problems is the same exact problem that rapefugee communities in europe afflicts upon their host countries.

And yeah, they don't want any of that obviously... they want their own nation. If they had the Western support that Taiwan or Hong Kong had, they might have it too. Or something better anyway. China is way too big for it to just be 'one' people and the idea that they're not assimilating or whatever is dumb as fuck. They don't need to assimilate. They're not immigrants, or foreigners. They're people being persecuted in their own lands by a government that doesn't represent them. -
