Training oneself to be a pro at lucid dreaming

The past few days I've been having some lucid dreams but they always start on their own and only last several seconds or near a minute then I slip back into autopilot.
How can I train myself to be able to lucid dream on command and stay lucid for hours?

    "Adventures beyond the body"

    by William Buhlman.

I'm able to get out of body at will, with concentration and actually move shit around, or I could, but I DON'T slap the shit out of someone, or worse... but I don't. There's laws you don't cross there. But it also talks about lucid dreams if I'm not mistaken...

Also there's good stuff in diary form in Robert Monroe's books. He's the one who founded the Monroe Sleep Institute.

Valerian root is great for lucid dreaming for me. I actually "direct" them from an overhead perspective @ times like a movie.

Honestly fascinating but I’d rather smoke an obscene amount of weed and have no dreams whatsoever.

    You're really missing out.
Dreams are such an amazing then, they take you to fantasy places only your subconscious mind could come up with.
It's the closest you can get to full immersion virtual reality without connecting your brain to a computer.

Meh, I don't have time to get absorbed in that right now. Not for entertainment, at least. All I need is a glimpse, and I can intuit the rest of the meaningful content later via active imagination.

    What time?
You're asleep, might as well have something going on during that time.

I learned with the birth of my 3rd child, that I had and probably had been practicing out of body as a form of pain management and safety since I was about 6 years old.

It is one of many things, that I just did .. no training or reading or intent or whatever ...

It was not until I saw the birth video, and I started laughing - it became Crystal clear.

Much of my travels have been done with my eyes closed

Dreaming is just a trick they use to keep your eyes closed.

My mother left a note on the door of our empty apartment that said “the kids clothes are in the garage, by”

That was the start of it .....

Or it might have been when I was 5 ... on Father’s Day, dad gave me and my sister a joint and a bottle of champagne... yeah, that may have started it
