Easy solution: just go really far away and make stuff. Odds are nobody is going to find me where I am by accident, and even if they knew where I was it'd be a pain in the ass to get to me (even through the nether you'd have to go thousands of blocks). The downside to this is you're basically playing single player unless you can convince some people (who you trust) to come with you.
This. On the last server i did this and it was boring. Obbe visited once. That was it. I'd rather have my shit destroyed than not see people. But its cool to build and work with people without fear.
On my old server I used to run in Total Miners I could just set a protected zone by player name. Players would buy land for meager amounts of gold earned by selling items at one of the registered stores, all of which I amazingly got most of to pay taxes once a week or I'd evict them. I didnt need the money it was just for immersion. There was an unemployment office, a bank, a jail, court, and it all functioned semi perfectly with the help of some admins.
One time some dudes started an illegal gold mining operation in my town so I confiscated their equipment, reposessed their home, and sent them to jail where they absolutely could not escape because you spawned trapped in jail/immigration. I never figured it out and sometimes people i wanted to go to jail would end up in immigration and run away.
Anyway this let everyone have a protected home. Locked doors, locked chests, nobody can break in. Your home and business is save. Outside of that area tho, anything goes. It was only in the town right at spawn there was any structure.
I used to pay guards to patrol the town lol. It was so cool working together.
Most of the times these servers are just chaos. Or if they ARE structured in a more roleplay way, its super complicated and super populated so you just feel like a small block in a big city instead of someone helping to build a town from the ground up.
I know everyone kinda tried to do this with gay town but that wont ever last because of people like fona. Not unless you build way out where nobody will ever visit you.
I kinda loved randoms popping up at Aztecaland. I gave a few noobs some free iron and food and sent them on their way. I had two citizens of Aztecaland too who had just started building.
