Human capital is infinitely more valuable than education right now but it still isn't keeping me from getting an education, because I enjoy it and I will be proud when I'm finished. Most employers are aware of this and will invest in workers they believe in. Low energy and motivation people like you and scron aren't viewed as an irreplaceable asset to any company and do not have the initiative to do much on your own. It's amazing and admirable that you have apparently tricked people into paying you some crumbs for writing/editing (if true) and I imagine you had to lie as to your qualifications in order for someone to do that without them being in a coma and having given their power of estate to one of those semi-perpetual motion birds. If you don't fudge your resume up somewhat you are stupid and not trying, or else you're extremely skilled and one of the lucky ones. The only person here I can think that would apply to is star trek, certainly not you, me or scron.

There are a lot of smart people here but nobody here is mega rich with millions dollars. The DH people might act like that but that's just the same attitude all middle management people have.
Some smart people put in effort their entire lives and end up nowhere. Kind of like the plot to breaking bad.
Is it the failings of the individual or is it society requiring too much effort? Like if you just focus on your family and living a simple life you could easily lose everything by not keeping up with the rapidly changing technological capitalist society. Lots of older people had to be trained to use computers and if they didn't learn they became useless and are seen as unintelligent.
That's why there are DINKS. Double income no kids or people that have no desire to get married or have serious relationships because it's seen as a distraction from professional development and focusing on your career.
