Society takes too much effort

  1. #1
The complex social and economic systems that allow us to escape the Malthusian trap are considered to be essential aspects of human life. Everything in life revolves around how many humans are currently alive.

IQ is the default standard for determining someones potential in a society. Most rich people have high IQ's like Elon Musk. In our society it is believed that someone intelligent from a poor family can become successful and surpass the vast majority in terms of wealth and success.

Organizations like the NFL and Military test for IQ. Can a low IQ person be a productive member of society? If you wanted to be a carpenter or contractor in this modern world you would have more success by being licensed, passing a test. Could a person who doesn't have the ability to past these tests be as competent?

Requiring licenses and specialized training for professional work is a product of modern capitalist society. In places like Denmark you can get licensed to become a dishwasher. It's a week long course that teaches about sanitary health practices and such.

Consider the case of Alexey Stakhanov, a hero of socialist labor who mined a record 102 tonnes of coal in 5 hours and 45 minutes (14 times his quota). Interestingly this incident took place after he took an education course in mining. Was it his IQ that determined his success or his 'grit'

It took less effort and intelligence to be successful in the past than it does now. As society grows the minimum IQ to be considered to have high potential also increases.

If you were a rich nobility in the past you would live in a house like this

Compare that to our current standard of a high wealth luxury lifestyle. More effort and intelligence required for less. This condo is worth a lot more than a posh estate. You have to have a high paying long term career to live in a place like this. Whereas in the past a rich farmer or land owner would live in something like the above picture

In today's world it would take more effort and intelligence to achieve the same wealth and social status. But like I said before people with high IQ are more likely to achieve this. Perhaps there is another factor we are missing, not grit but effort. Alexey Stakhanov is not considered to be a high IQ person, but he was a national hero for his effort. Was his effort determined by his IQ?

I propose a new term, EQ. Effort quotient. I don't know how this could be measured and this has been discredited by the social sciences after research was done into graduates of the West Point Academy who determined 'grit' was meaningless and IQ was the important factor in their success.

An example of someone with high IQ and low EQ would be Sploo, who was in college and made IQ tests for fun but was going nowhere in life and never even had a bank account.

I would regard OP as being another example of someone with a high IQ and low EQ.

Yes, you need a high IQ to succeed in modern society. That's the price of admission.

But a high willingness to work hard and dedicate yourself to learning is also essential.

Even when counter intuitive. For instance university or learning to code requires hundreds of hours of wasted effort - effort you know is pointless and shit, just so you can get better.

That's why people like Wario are so dumb - they think their first tries are perfect and push them in everyone's face, but actually your first few tries at anything will be shit and should be dumped, and maybe once you've run out of mistakes to make you'll finally make something worth keeping.

So you need both a decent IQ and a decent EQ to succeed.

I'm surprised anyone found that EQ doesn't matter. Perhaps it doesn't in the army - the army is an organisation you can bluff your way around - but in real life it does.

And yes, accommodation in cities is super expensive, isn't it? I'm still trying to figure out how the economics of buying a box in the sky work, and how it compares to having land.

I would consider myself average in both, just a normal dude. I enjoy working hard and accomplishing things. I used to have a lot more drive to do things and make as much money as possible.

I have no problem getting professional training, i've done it before. I got my forklift operator license recently. Most people I worked for grew up in an era where there were no licenses for driving forklift, maybe only in the biggest companies.

But now the government will be on your ass and fine the company if the driver doesn't have one. There are so many hoops and red tape that need to be swerved to operate in the world. I know not all countries are like this, maybe it's just a first world thing.

Thats why immigrants end up as taxi drivers and manual laborers because in their country you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on training to do something like handling toxic chemicals.

    also OP is wromg.

the true key to "sucesses" as this society defines it is

    A DEFECTIVE MORAL COMPASS.

the more defective your moral compass is, the more successes you'll have.
