Wuhan flu still spreading in China according to internet conspiracy theorists

For the first time since the virus outbreak began, China’s national health commission claimed on March 19 that there were no new infections in the entire country.

But Chinese citizens describe a different reality.

In Wuhan, ground zero of the epidemic, residents witnessed long lines at hospitals while more facilities were reportedly being set up to accommodate ill patients.

Ms. Li also said many people are undiagnosed and self-isolating at home. “[From what I know], each residential compound in [Jiang’an district, an area of Wuhan] has infected virus patients. The patients are forced to stay at home.”

Ms. Zhang, another Wuhan resident, believed the epidemic was much more severe than authorities are admitting.

“If the outbreak isn’t critical, it [the government] would allow us to return to work. Now all roads are still blocked, and businesses have not resumed production in Wuhan,” Zhang said in a March 17 phone interview.

Just watched Dr Ryan from the WHO. He said there is no reason not to believe the Chinese. He stated they are reporting correctly.

I’m not saying he’s right, just telling you what I saw.

i know they have reported that many who survived this now have it a second time. since there are 2 evolved strands, i wonder if the second go round is the deadly strand. definitely will be keeping my eyes open to see what develops.

    exactly!!

they have reported low numbers of death, but yet, we have satellite images of mass graves and bodies being burned. something definitely is not adding up for mass graves and body burning to be taking place.

Should we be using spray disinfectants and masks like they do?

Some people are getting re-infected, but my understanding is that the body does eventually develop antibodies specific to corona, so there is some level of immunity that develops.

    this virus has evolved twice.
no reason to believe it wont evolve again.
the body only protects from what it is familiar with, not what something has evolved into.

The Chinese goal in reporting on the virus has primarily been to control panic, not to report accurately - panic is far more lethal than the virus.

It's important to keep this in mind instead of going straight to 'big bad CCP lies about everything'

Apparently there was one study of 103 cases that identified two distinct variations of the virus, a mild one and a more aggressive version. About 70% of cases were the aggressive one.

But since this sample only included 103 cases, when there’s now over 300,000 known cases worldwide, there could be dozens or hundreds of other distinct mutations out there I guess.

Two strains of the new coronavirus are spreading around the world, according to an analysis of 103 cases. But the World Health Organization insists that “there is no evidence that the virus has been changing”. So how many strains are there, and why does it matter?

Viruses are always mutating, especially RNA viruses like this one, coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. When a person is infected with the coronavirus, it replicates in their respiratory tract. Every time it does, around half a dozen genetic mutations occur, says Ian Jones at the University of Reading, UK.

When Xiaolu Tang at Peking University in Beijing and colleagues studied the viral genome taken from 103 cases, they found common mutations at two locations on the genome. The team identified two types of the virus based on differences in the genome at these two regions: 72 were considered to be the “L-type” and 29 were classed “S-type”.

A separate analysis by the team suggests that the L-type was derived from the older S-type. The first strain is likely to have emerged around the time the virus jumped from animals to humans. The second emerged soon after that, says the team. Both are involved in the current global outbreak. The fact that the L-type is more prevalent suggests that it is “more aggressive” than the S-type, the team say.
