Why did you choose to do this journey anyway?

because my situation and life where i was was just fucked and pointless and hopeless. my drug addict stepfather continually extorted me, i was paying a lot of money for a room with broken windows and no heat in the snowiest region of the continental united states, i was unable to get transportation so i couldn't work anywhere beyond walking distance or even get a drivers license, so i just said fuck it, sold my shit, and started walking till i hit the pacific or something changed.
and in the end, it was the best time of my life, and something did change, and i'm doing pretty fuckin good now. it was a good move.

i did try camping on some land that black bears had been fighting on the literal night before in west virginia, and the land owner showed me to the road. i was trying to lay down and sleep on the spot where bears had been fighting, after climbingh almost 250 feet with my 80lb pack, over steep land. the owners dog didn't want my peanut-butter tortillas, but he was cool.
