The lock-down will last until early April.
The dramatic escalation in the country's efforts to contain the new coronavirus will close gyms, pools, museums and ski resorts.
Italy is Europe's worst-hit country and reported a steep rise in virus infections on Saturday.
The new measures, which also apply to financial centre Milan and tourist hotspot Venice will last until 3 April.
The death toll in Italy has passed 230, with officials reporting more than 50 deaths in 24 hours. The number of confirmed cases jumped by more than 1,200 to 5,883 on Saturday.
The whole northern region of Lombardy, home to 10 million people and Italy's financial centre Milan, will be closed off except to emergency access, and 14 provinces including Venice, Parma and Modena will be subject to the same measures - affecting a total of around 16 million people.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said the provinces affected were Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Rimini, Pesaro and Urbino, Alessandria, Asti, Novara, Verbano Cusio Ossola, Vercelli, Padua, Treviso and Venice.

This just means more testing has been available, not that there's actually been quadrupled cases. -

230 deaths are +- 3%.
you do the math.
Your death toll will be accurate, but your infection rate isn't. Dead people get tested. Most people with a simple fever don't. There's no way to accurately measure the actual fatality rate until everyone with a fever has been tested for COVID 19. Hence why Trump is saying not to worry, it's likely no worse then the regular flu. While the media is screaming their heads off. Once all this blows away, the fake news will be exposed once again. -

Death rate is certainly higher than the regular flu but it is somewhat less contagious. Still, authorities on the subject have admitted it will now be impossible to contain this virus. -

i mean get the numbers of infected by multiplying the number of recorded deaths.
230 deaths at 3% death rate = +-80,000 infected. -

That 80k isn't all the infections though..it's only the recorded ones...actual infections are probably 3 or 4 x that...so that drops the death rate to 1% or less.
Most infections are pretty mild, a bunch of people will have had it, got over it and never even been to the doctor too. -

if infection is mild and doesnt need a doctors attention then it isnt infection.
like we'rr all dying but only those who're experiencing accelerated dying in the ICU are considered to be 'dying'. -
