Skip forward 200yrs and now your average American is worry about catching a fucking cold.
Some of you people need to play the Oregon Trail.
We used to be desensitized to death, war, disease, and famine because they were a constant reality. Can't really fault people growing up in a world where that's not true for being scared of these things that are to them mostly unknown. Americans of the past would be fucking astonished and happy that their women and children are more likely to survive childbirth than not these days. They wouldn't be horrified about how "pussified" we are. -
2020-03-04 at 9:26 AM UTCLike seriously, if anything we fear these things less than we used to, and the only reason people's panic over coronavirus is even noteworthy is because so little of our lives is actually occupied with fearing these things nowadays. Old timey fuckers would probably chastise us for *not* worrying more about disease and Comanche war parties the other 99% of our lives, not mock us for worrying about it the 1% we actually deign to take notice of the horrors reality has in store for us.

2020-03-04 at 1:16 PM UTCColumbus doesn’t have corona yet; but I’ll bet after this weekend we do. The Arnold Classic is here the weekend, and people come from all over the world for this body building show. I guess they’re blocking certain countries from coming, and they say they’re taking precautions. We shall see.

Nothing new, People have been calling their colds "I've got the flu" for years, even though in most cases it's just a cold and not the flu. If you really have the flu you generally can't get out of bed let alone be out and about whining at people "i have the flu".
You have a cold motherfucker...stop playing for sympathy.
The point will probably come in a month or two where every motherfinger with a cold will say "I might have the corona virus"
Self diagnosis...it's what's for lunch etc. -
