thats just his excuse for being hygiene-averse. reminds me of a little kid that says it cant take a bath because his toys might get wet.

this is why retards need to be involuntarily contained within asylums and eugenics needs to become vogue...yet another example of the mentally deficient running amok. like a dog getting hold of a chewy slipper to gnaw on and not letting go until its teeth are ground down into nothing-nubs. this is a poorly thought out and even more poorly engaged attempt by someone who came up with a stupid idea that should have been shot down but unfortunately another retard saw how chewy and yummy it was and decided to gnaw on it for good measure.

1- to save about 25-cents worth of gas through the life of the starter the vehicle owner is going to have to purchase multiple new starters throughout the life of the vehicle. go call the dealership and ask how much it will be to replace the starter

2- to save three or four ounces of gasoline over the life of the starter there will be several pounds of assorted metals and plastics that cant be readily 'recycled' when the starter fails. modern starters are not wound the same way as older ones that make rebuilding them as cost effective.

3- this isnt even getting into the assorted ancillary issues that will present themselves during the excessive stresses on other systems caused by the exponential increase in duty requirements of the starter. one example is the electrical system over all. smaller gauge wiring in modern vehicles powering the starter is grossly inadequate to provide its actual power needs...which will result is various voltage drops causing issues with the complex, sensitive, and wholly inadequately insulated electronics. god forbid the voltage drop fries an external electronic device attached to the in-vehicle electrical system. (phone being charged...assorted cameras...OBDII devices (monitors...programmers)...GPS monitors of assorted types...etc etc, ad nauseum)

4- this is boring now. in summary...bad idea thought up by retards.

3.5- in a car the battery has died and theyre out in the boonies where the driver fortunately found someone who would jump-start their vehicle...then need to let the engine run for a sufficient period of time to charge the battery...then while theyre driving with the low battery and stop...and the engine shuts off...and there isnt enough charge to feed that starter...and...***price-is-right-buzzer***

    and oil...and coolant...

an engine running is circulating oil and coolant. shutting the engine off stops the oil and coolant circulating which has the effect of:

    - in a hot engine the core temperature will spike causing damage to various components, the most sensitive being non-metallic seals. stop-and-go traffic is the worst (after hill climbing) way to cause an engine to overheat.

    - in a stopped engine the lubricating oil has fallen back into the oil pan...or at the very least started dribbling back down towards the oil pan and ceased lubricating (and cooling) the upper parts of the engine. over heated valves really enjoy being asked to function for the seconds it takes between the time combustion stresses starts and the oil pump decides to start feeding them lube. the oil pressure sensor doesnt say jack or shit about what kind of oil circulation the valves are getting.

that sounds like some marketing ploy. every vehicle uses a different amount of gas while idled and for 'them' to magically pick any one number is suspicious. its not like car dealers/manufacturers have a reputation for reliable statistics on their vehicles performance numbers.

that 12% would have to be weighed against the other related costs.

i believe they didnt. what i do believe they did was discover yet another way to shaft the buyers of their vehicles out of money. one of the most stressful and wear-causing aspects of an internal combustion engine is starting it. its called 'engineered obsolescence' and is a thing. multiple manufacturers have been busted for partaking of such shenanigans.

i researched this when i was looking into purchasing a new vehicle a few years ago and there was zero online information substantiating any other systems modifications relating to the unnecessary on/off-ing of the engine. the starter and associated wiring appeared no different than those on any other comparable vehicle.

Originally posted by -SpectraL Many people think that long-term use may induce additional wear due to lack of oil lubrication. For the crankshaft bearing half shells and the big end bearings this can translate into frequent high-speed rotary movement before a hydrodynamic film is established. During this phase of boundary lubrication, metal-to-metal contact can occur between the crankshaft surface and the bearing's sliding surface. This was not an issue while the number of engine restarts totaled what was generally understood to be a normal magnitude. However, in a vehicle with a start-stop system this effect can necessitate new technological solutions to avoid premature bearing wear, depending on the driving cycle. Consequently, future engines for start-stop applications need to be designed for 250,000 to 300,000 starts. Traditional bearing shells with aluminum or copper lining show severe wear after only 100,000 cycles.

Some implementations don't use a starter motor[citation needed], eliminating concerns of starter motor wear. The Mazda i-stop used in the Mazda3/Axela line (in Europe and JDM) uses combustion to assist the starter motor by sensing the position of the piston in the cylinder. They claim quieter and quicker engine restart within 0.35 seconds.[44]

Start-stop systems are heavily reliant on the battery. Testing indicates that AGM batteries diminish in their ability to support start-stop functionality over time.[45] While alternatives exist (NiZn, Lithium-Ion, supercapacitors,[46] PbC), virtually all automakers continue to use conventional AGM lead acid batteries.

Some car makers such as Suzuki have one lithium-ion battery inside the car.[37]

thats funny. current production vehicles are already using the pinnacle of bearing technology using assorted coatings and ultra-exotic metal alloys to feed normal IC engines. now they need even more life/reliability out of them to support this start/stop nonsense, yet the technology doesnt exist.

ive been googling this and after reading through about ten sites im even more convinced start/stop technology is a rip roaring rump raping jamboree. i enjoyed reading about the multitude of s/s victims describing how their batteries died in cold weather due to the inadequate charging of their vehicle electrical systems. i most enjoyed reading about the overpriced BMW owners whos batteries dont have enough juice to start their junk in them middle of traffic in zero-degree temperatures.

    Interesting facts about start-stop technology

Start-stop systems require a battery with modern technology, because normal starter batteries are not designed to meet the higher demands of these vehicles.

The architecture of the electrical system in modern vehicles requires a compatible battery technology in order to function properly and reliably. For this reason, in many vehicles, new batteries must be “registered” – the Battery Management System (BMS) must know what type of battery is installed in the vehicle in order to exploit its full potential. If an incorrect battery is installed in the vehicle or is not correctly registered, this can result in premature battery deterioration and another breakdown.

For this reason, only EFB or AGM batteries should be installed in vehicles with automatic stop-start systems. If an AGM battery is already installed in the vehicle, it must always be replaced with another AGM battery.

this is hilarious. the complications and difficulties associated with something so ridiculously trivial and utterly insignificant in actual results...and the retards think this was a good idea.

this is why selective eugenics and mass-sterilization needs to become a societal norm again.
