I told you exactly how I wanted it done. You told me to give you 2 weeks. Now you're going with this "I thought we were joking" defense to try and save face. I'm not sending you money upfront for nothing. I was 100% serious in wanting it and told you I would pay for it. You said you were ordering the materials. Twist it all you want. You lied to me.

It's normal to at least put a deposit down on commissioned work. The fact Candy is in another state has little bearing on this. She is shouldering much more risk than you are. You are expecting her to purchase the materials and put in her hours making the thing...on the word of a "guy in another state".
I asked her to make me a banana hammock but I was just joking (as I'd be embarrassed when having to give the actual size dimensions) -
