is it is too frafmented. you got so many onlinechsnnels systems separwte services and even retro systems are being revived like ps3 and wii with online gaming twking players away feom other consoles or services or modern gaming as well. then tou got emulators etc. back in the dwy you had like gamepsy or the microsoft gsming zone and everyone would flock to these and you could always find player son any given game.
there are more people playing games than ever, they just flock to the latest AAA ones, not the 20 year old arena shooters you can't stop talking about when you get drunk

I somewhat agree but I think it's more of a platform problem, same thing with social media, chat apps, OS compatibility, etc.
If you want to talk about fragmented communities
you have Minecraft 1.12.2, 1.8.9, 1.7.2, 1.19.2, 1.20 (the current version that nobody plays on)
A lot of those versions are not compatible with each other, a server can only run one version essentially, and that's just for the Java version of the game. I think most servers will be stuck on 1.19.2 for years to come.
SO WHEN I HEAR A FORTNITE PLAYER CRY THAT THEY CAN'T PLAY FORTNITE WITH THEIR LITTLE BROTHER ON HIS IPAD WHILE TIMMY IS ON THE GABECUBE , YOU WON'T GET ANY SYMPATHY FROM ME PAL.
