Hu Jintao publicly humiliated at CCP Congress.

Footage of Hu Jintao being asked to leave the stage is drawing global attention, as people try to work out what has just happened.

Hu Jintao, who held the presidency between 2003 and 2013, was on stage when two officials approached him. He said something to Xi Jinping, who nodded back.

The country's former leader, at one point, appeared reluctant to move. If that is the case, why? What did he say to the man who replaced him, Xi Jinping, which prompted a nod from China's current leader and what did he say to his protégé Li Keqing as he tapped him on the shoulder before being ushered off stage?

The two most likely reasons for his departure are that it was either part of China's power politics on full display, with a leader representing a former time being symbolically removed, or that Hu Jintao has serious health problems.

If he was led away because of ill-health why did this happen so suddenly? Why in front of the cameras? Was it an emergency?

No one knows what just happened. The Chineee remains as inscrutable as ever in their mysterious, rice picking ways.

What I want to know is, why did they not kung fu fight? They didn't even appear to summon their chi.

saw this, very cool. He pretty much sentenced that Premier to death by asking him to step in, first you can see him ask Xi and Xi dismisses him, knowing this moment will be scrutinized. Anyone critical of Xi or his three terms, will be asked to leave.

That old man will have the SPOOK put in him and dropped off at home.

Ironically if he had been a better manipulator it could be him at the podium not his once underling.

Doubt it. Apparently Xi waited until the reporters had been brought in, and the voting was just about to begin to do this. Most likely Hu will announce his retirement and go off to his garden to keep crickets as pets and answer questions in riddles for the rest of his life.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has further consolidated his position in the country’s ruling party, after key changes were made to the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) charter.

Some 2,300 party members on Saturday voted unanimously to pass the changes to the party’s top guiding document at the end of a week-long party congress, held once every five years in Beijing.

They include enshrining “new developments” to Mr Xi’s political ideology, also known as “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics”.

The full text of the amendment has not yet been released, so it is not immediately clear what the changes are, but according to an announcer explaining the changes to the party charter, it appears to include the incorporation of the term “two establishments” (liangge queli), which refers to establishing Mr Xi’s “core status” in the party, and his ideas as the party’s guiding principles.

A second slogan “two safeguards” (liangge weihu), which refers to safeguarding the core status of Mr Xi within the party and the party’s centralised authority, also appeared to be included.

Explaining the reasoning behind the changes, an announcer said they were necessary in order for the party to “resolve the acute problems and challenges undermining its long-term governance, the security and stability of the country, and the wellbeing of the people”.
