i was just reading in polish in a polish history magazine about victims of polio disease after ww2 about how some of them would die because like five percent had this weird reacrion to the disease where their lungs would cave in or be incapicitated unless they put them in these big metal machines or cyllinders like early respirators and how they had to live like this for weeks months and sometiems yrs at a time and the article actually mentioned but i didnt believe it some wre srill living this way today. i actually was gonna post about it being another juet imaginr scenario an dlook what just popped on my youtube feed. its as if youtubes algorithm is a mind reader guys.
They used to use "Iron Lungs" before that had Oxygen Tanks and portable Ox tanks. they also used Oxygen tents that were used all the way up into the 60s and 70s (and probably have a form of them today). I remember being in a Oxygen tent as a small boy. Maybe 1969 because i had a bad case of pneumonia multiple times. I remember being a little bit scared being inside it. but they decided I was breathing OK on my own. probably after getting anti-biotics.
I never had breathing problems most of my childhood until I hit 12 and experienced my first asthma experience.
then had a few more but they stopped at 13 or 14 years old and I didn’t have one until I hit 21 years of age. ended up in ER getting a nebulizer treatment. scarey as fuck. became routine for years and then I dont think I had one since age 40. but they can always creep up. I take Advair now. A dry disc of Albuteral and Steroids you breath this dry powder in twice a day.
