How to become a night person

  1. #1
I go to sleep early as fuck because I wake up at 4:30-5:30 AM every single day, regardless of what time I go to sleep. If I go to bed at 2 AM, I wake up at 5:30, maybe 6. If I go to sleep at like 9 PM, I wake up at 5. It fucking sucks because once my eyes open, I'm awake. It's like my body just releases a massive spike of cortisol or something and my heart and mind get moving very quickly, even if I want to sleep again and feel like shit from being tired. And now that I'm in real college and shit I miss out on things because I go to sleep so early. So does anyone know a way to adjust my sleep schedule or make myself stop waking up so early? Should I try meditation or something to get my mind to stop racing?

Just keep forcing yourself to stay up late. I've always been that way, not wanting to go to bed early because I feel like I'm missing out on something, even when I know I'm not. I just like the night time because it's peaceful and I feel like it's 'my time.' I certainly can't relate to waking up at 5 AM and not being able to sleep. I am the KING of being able to sleep in, LATE into the day if I so desire. I generally sleep from about 4 AM-noon. When I was manic I would go to bed at 2 or 3 in the morning and get up around 7 or 8. Now I feel like I need at least 8 hours of sleep; I wish that I could sustain myself off of 4-5 hours a night. It's a BURETY KUIL FEALING to not sleep that much and still have loads of energy.

I've always never slept during the night because it is my time. But unfortunately I have a hard time sleeping during the day so I basically never sleep.

Being an ex stoner the night was mainly the only time I could free myself, at night.

Controlling light levels helps a lot. Blackout curtains go a long way. If you want to get fancy you can install a timer on your lights to simulate sunrise at like whatever time you want to wake up. There's always going to be some pain in the adjustment period but if you manage sleep/wake stimulus well you can get used to a new sleep schedule pretty quick.

Lanny, you forgot to mention F.lux (CF.Lumen is better for phones). It's how hipsters identify each other at night.
