I'm venting to you guys because I'm drunk and my boss is sick of hearing my opinions.
Don't go to Walgreen's. Especially don't go to CVS, and if your insurance company contracts with CVS drop them now and find a new one. Walmart is shit, they want you to buy their Vietnamese shit, so the medicine is cheap and the service is shitty too. Go to an independent pharmacy.
Stupid fucking corporate culture is constantly at odds with the needs of patients, who they affectionately refer to as "irate customers." The numbers take precedence over the quality of care, and they'll have me calling a doctor's office to stick my hand into the prescribing methods just because the insurance will throw a few bucks our way. Retail pharmacy is greedy and unrepentant, banking on every mishap of legislation and abusing its employees until there's no more to take.
I don't know a pharmacist with a career and a social life, period. If you work full time in pharmacy, you have nothing else. Your schedule is random, and if your boss calls you you'd better go in if you value your career. The best boss I ever had was up and coming in the field, respected and offered management positions left and right in every state, when she was ruined for refusing to go in for a day of no pay. Her kids have to rethink their college choices until she can find steady work again outside of this district.
Don't get me wrong, my job is fine.Today I waved to one patient who wanted to thank me for my work and three people behind them in line waved back enthusiastically because I'm beloved by all. I just can't stand the foolish demands, wrongful allocation of resources, the greedy politics and the mistreatment of employees that retail pharmacy is built on. It's disgusting, and it's wrong. Anyone who goes into the profession as their primary source of income is a masochist.

Pharmacists are the shittiest health profession because their entire job is reciting a fucking label. Unless you work at a compounding pharmacy you will never have to use everything you had to learn to get your pharm d and thus forget every bit of it. Its quite sad really. You gotta do like 6 years of school just to tell sick people to take these pills twice daily, do inventory and stock all the whole the idea or some other betabet soup agency breathes down your neck because your customers have been subscribed a moderately higher than average amount of pain medication and you ordered it.

Well, yeah. Generally I'm not sure why people think 2-4 years of undergrad + 4 years of professional schooling is worth ~$100k/year, but I suppose that would depend on where you go to school. Community colleges and in-state public professional education programs are strong here in Illinois, but the pharmacy schools lowered their standards somewhat to accept more applicants and produce more pharmacists. The result was a market oversaturated with B and C grade pharmacists, and most of them haven't figured out what to do yet because so many meet their spouse in pharmacy school only to be stuck here when just one of them gets an internship/pharmacist position, waiting for their loans to come out of deferment - might as well have a kid, while they're unemployed. The hole only gets deeper from here.
