How are holdecks/holosuites not illegal

  1. #1
They CONSTANTLY have things go wrong that put people in danger

    Holograms become real

People get trapped and the safety turns off

Transporter accidents lead to the ship using their signature/data as a character who can DIE

It seems like a TERRIBLE fucking idea. Every star trek show where they're present, something goes wrong at least a few times a year. If they have this many problems, what the fuck are they thinking? How does the rest of the universe fare without the knowledge of Starfleet/the federation? Since anyone with money can buy one apparently, people all over the galaxy must be constantly dying.

Not to mention even if used correctly you can get injured on them with a dangerous enough program. People break legs and sprain arms even when its working right. I assume the safety stops it short of killing you tho

I'd be so afraid to use one for anything exciting.

It's pretty retarded. Like that episode where they accidentally uploaded data to the cowboy Western Simulation and he took over everything and thought he was Billy the kid and started talking in a western accent.

That would never happen! How is his AI even compatible with the damn holodeck programs? Is the code that universal that you can introduce totally foreign technology and it has all the correct ports and drivers to make that happen.

I know it's the future but come on thats totally unrealistic. That would be like plugging a computer into an Xbox game and gives the video game a virus and tries to kill you.

I think it works through transporter technology. It essentially boils you down to code and transplants you somewhere else. This is how the replicators and holodecks work as well. Creating code and bringing it to existence. Medicine, food, people, adventures, furniture, nothingness is off limits.

So I get how Data's body can be transported but yeah, his positronic brain doesn't make sense. IIRC that episode was just his body and not his mind. The real Data was outside the holodeck figuring that shit out with Geordie the space nigga

Why are the ships in Star Trek called USS?

He was talking like a cowboy though which makes even less sense.

It actually stands for united space ship. It could also have to do with the universal translator. Like, Picard could quite possibly be speaking French. Chekov has been confirmed to speak Russian. Sisko most definitely is speaking English tho.

It's easy to forget how powerful their translator is because it translates both text and sound for them. Just a little brain implant that somehow everyone has.

Very rarely do they even address it. Works so well tho that on DS9 they're able to communicate fluidly with a new race from the Gamma Quadrant in like a day.

So maybe other races see something other than USS. I dunno.

    SPACE FORCE!

Its because his body was being used as an NPC. You see a similar thing happen when Sisko, Worf, Dax, Kira, and O'Brien have a transporter accident and have their bodies stored on the holodeck while their conscious energy is stored elsewhere on the ship.
