What's the thing with 720P video?

Like I download some 720P video and it plays ok, others just won't play on my machine no matter what. the picture is all interlaced and like grayscaled and just lags to hell and back.

Is it just the way it is with my machine or is there some shit I can do here? some vids on yt were showing changes in VLC preferences that didn't help at all.

This is really annoying as I dl'd stranger things S1 the other day and it was fine. Then I dl'd seasons 2 and 3 and they won't play for shit. Its all 720P video tho, so what's the difference?

it's not the resolution that's the issue, it'll be the specific codec used.

if you want to find out what codec/compression/etc is in use try mediainfo (if I remember right you were using lunix) so

What aldra said about the codec

In VLC go into tools - media information - codec

chances are you downloaded some video using the ancient xvid because you're a dumb plebe downloading things from a public tracker

you could try installing MPC-HC https://mpc-hc.org/ it tends to handle certain codecs better than VLC, but the interface and feature set isn't as nice as VLC.
