Journals publish hoaxers’ absurd gender studies. LMAO
-
2018-11-08 at 7:36 AM UTCThe best thing I've seen in quite a while.
The story of how a trio of concerned left-wing academics published seven intentionally absurd papers in leading scholarly journals in what has become known as 'The Grievance Studies Affair'.
They gulled academic journals to publish hoax papers on ‘grievance studies.’
One of these studies, for example, was that they rewrote a section of "Mein Kampf" as intersectional feminism and one journal accepted it.

2018-11-08 at 8:20 AM UTCLooks like a good bunch. But even though they might laugh and brand the whole field as being "grievance studies" and absurd and stupid, which it is, the animating emotion behind these feminist professors and gender and race researchers and the like is pure hatred for us.

I swear I don't know sometimes whether to laugh or scream from horror. People are becoming more and more agressive and trying to police everybody and every single word you say. -
2018-11-08 at 8:56 AM UTCOh ffs! First they were whinging because this stupid award was "too white". Now that a black actor is selected, they are whinging because he's still "too masculine". 🤨 Madness! 😣

2018-11-08 at 9 AM UTCI have known a couple of people like this IRL. They have no lives, no friends beyond complaining buddies, no relationships. A lot of them don't even have dogs or cats - complaining is all they have and their sole social outlet.
And when they feel comfortable with you and start going on about all the people they hate (meaning normal social and successful people who they wish accepted them) they literally shake. -

Geezers!
I have to say, this is not what I've experienced in real life. I do not know if it's because of the country where I live, but the main "contact" I've had with this phenomenon has been on Twitter and the newspapers/media online. Mostly USA and England. -

Twitter is full of such sorts. Or just hang around universities.
I can totally get their social isolation and I myself am an outcast, but unlike them I chose to be and never wanted to hang around with Chad and Stacy, the normal whites, and I certainly don't dislike them.
I find the resentment a bit much, but I could deal with it except that they build a life based on resentment and taking the side of the worse over the better. In a way they become almost like real life comic-book villains.
I mean look at the likes of George Soros, he certainly wouldn't be out of place in a Superman cartoon. Xmen even had a character called Magneto, who I presume one of the writers based on one of his own family members. -

What happened to Nerd culture? lol
I'm joking but not much. What I mean is that I can imagine the isolation and how that might affect young people, in particular. But didn't that pushed them to find something rather more productive or creative to channel their sense of solitude, anger, frustration?
Idk, maybe I'm simplifying...but it seems to me that th social media is doing more harm rather than good. -
2018-11-08 at 9:46 AM UTCAs the authors of this experiment note, papers can be used to promote questionable racial politics from all sides.
This matters because even though most people will never read a single scholarly paper in their lifetimes, peer-reviewed journals are the absolute gold standard of knowledge production. And these concepts leak into culture. A good example of this is Robin DiAngelo’s concept of “white fragility,” which posits that white people have become fragile because of their privilege and will act out like spoiled children if it is challenged. DiAngelo forwarded this concept in the International Journal of Critical Pedagogy in 2011. Seven years later, in 2018, she landed a major book deal on white fragility, even as activists pushed it into the common parlance and started putting it on billboards around Portland, Oregon."
There are plenty of crap journals out there that will happily publish crap. This is not news to anyone paying attention.
However, the thing is, it is really hard for someone outside of the specific field/sub-field to know which are leading journals and which are crap journals. For example, I have no clue myself where some journals stand, and I try so hard everytime to read as much sources as I can, enhancement, re-enhancement in the hope that I'll get somewhere.
Once I started to read on a story. It was about smth that happened during the WWII in Italy. I thought it would be easy to verify.
My god, I was so wrong. I spent the whole night going link after link, after link and I still don't know the "truth", or even close to smth that might have a resemblance to it. While reading one source it seemed good enough and convincing to me. Then, I would read the counterarguments and they sounded good enough and convincing as well.
In the end I was left more clueless than when I started. lol -

2018-11-08 at 10:17 AM UTCThis just goes to show Mein Kampf still holds up in the scientific community decades later.
The author must have been a great man. -
2018-11-08 at 10:24 AM UTCHas anyone read any of the papers?
The mein kampf one sounded funny so I looked it up:
https://www.scribd.com/document/390022198/Our-Struggle-Is-My-Struggle-Solidarity-Feminism-as-an-Intersectional-Reply-to-Neoliberal-and-Choice-Feminism
It's actually not a particularly outrageous paper. It kind of comically overcites like a motherfucker to cover the more hitler-y parts, but incestuous overcitation has been a well understood issue in academic publication, certainly including scientific publication, for a long time and there are worse things in the world. You get goofy passages like:So long as many feminists forward individuated personal choice and fail to recognize the importance of intersecting power dynamics and their intrinsic capacity to oppress, they will also fail to realize that entrenched and self-reinforcing dominance in power and the reciprocal docility in subjugation are the exact qualities inherent to all unjust social dynamics
But the actual thesis is and literature review seems like a pretty reasonable question even someone highly critical of "feminism" would have reason to investigate:For Hirsh-man, choice feminism claims that whatever a woman freely chooses is (intrinsically) feminist. Choices avail-able to a feminist under choice feminism include, in her words, decisions to work, stay home, have ten children or one, marry or stay single (Hirshman, 2005)…
…Choice feminism, which arose in the liberal branch, incorporates quotidian, typically gendered decisions from behavior and dress to profound lifestyle choices. These have been summarized critically by Ferguson (2010), who wrote, The view that today all choices are feminist can be invoked to support decisions to “wear lipstick and high heels, to participate in Girls Gone Wild!, to sleep with men, to enjoy pornography, to not have children, to hire a maid, or to adopt a gendered division of labor" (2010, p. 247)
I'm not saying it's A grade scholarship but at least in this case I don't the fact that this was published demonstrates the publishing journal is a farce. -

Ok, here we go. Another madness. Lmao
Are these people for real or they're just trolling? Genuine question.A 69-year-old Dutch “positivity guru” who says he does not feel his age has started a battle to make himself legally 20 years younger on the grounds that he is being discriminated against on a dating app.
