Piracy has been an issue for a very long time.
The point of this thread is about digital file piracy and streaming and how having instantaneous unlimited access to music takes away from the value of it.
Of course, the same can be said for a bootleg collection of tapes and CD-rs, you're never going to feel as strongly about that music as a genuine fan who owns the actual copy. -

We just used to tape off the radio onto a cassette tape when I was a kid. Might not have been the best quality but we made do with it. My music collection as a kid was about 80% blank tapes with writing on them and about 20% pre-recorded tapes, half of which were either shoplifted or borrowed from friends and forgotten about. the rest were xmas and birthday presents from friends and relatives.
Free music really isn't something that started with the internet you know.

pretty good article, works off a lot of assumptions though. short version is the US is employing a lot of tools to try to hinder China from eclipsing the US economically, and covert use of bioweapons is possibly one of them.
That article is especially interesting because I remember writing a thread about the pig virus that was decimating the Chinese pork sector a year ago, and didn't follow it closely after that. As it turns out, Chinese pig farms were being infected via drone by 'criminal gangs'.
